Little Sable Point Lighthouse

This weekend, Boyfriend and I drove up to Grand Haven again to visit with my sister and her boyfriend. It's so gorgeous up there! I'm hoping someday we will eventually move there. On Friday we ended up taking a short drive up to Shelby, MI to see the Little Sable Point Lighthouse. We all had so much fun! It was located at the end of a dead-end drive of a state park. It was so tall! You could see it over the trees before you even got to it.
There was a total of 130 steps to get to the top. It actually wasn't that bad, it was the getting down part that I didn't want to think about. I'm afraid of heights and all I could think about was falling down all the stairs haha. But we ended up doing just fine.
The view from the top was gorgeous! We had such perfect weather. I loved that it was in the low 80's all weekend. The breeze at the top was surprisingly warm (I was expecting it to be cold) so we stayed up there for a while just taking it all in and enjoying the view of Lake Michigan.
I hope you enjoyed your weekend! I can't wait to visit more lighthouse around Michigan...there are literally hundreds of them :)

Mail!

I love getting mail, it's so exciting! Last night when I got home from class this beauty was waiting for me. Thanks to the Canada post strike, shipping was delayed but it was so worth the wait! Thank you Lauren Elan for keeping me updated along the way!

When I won this bracelet from Sydney's giveaway I couldn't wait to get it. At first it took me a while just to believe that I was in fact the winner! I can't wait to wear it with a cute outfit! Maybe I'll wear it when I do my 'ten down' post... which should be coming up soon by the way!!!

Downtown Ann Arbor

This weekend, most of my time was spent in downtown Ann Arbor. I have never been downtown before and I met a friend in one of my photography classes who knows her way around the city. I met up with her on Saturday after I picked up my camera and we went straight to the farmers market.  I loved seeing the fresh fruits and vegetables along with handmade things from the locals.

I couldn't believe how busy the city was. In most downtown areas the streets are dead but here there were packs and packs of people. I loved it! We had fun walking the streets and seeing new things (well new to me anyways). I didn't even know that there was a Ben & Jerry's store! I'm so going back there sometime to get ice cream!

On Sunday I met up with my friend again but this time Boyfriend came along as well. One of the things that I didn't get to see on Saturday was graffiti alley. I've heard about it before from other classmates but everything's different in real life. It's just covered everywhere with graffiti and there's even this "gum wall" that's covered in gum and has been painted over. The graffiti is always changing so I'd like to go back there again to see what people have done.

We also went back to this place called Zingerman's. It first opened in Ann Arbor, Michigan in 1982 and since then it has become one of the country's leading specialty food stores. It's so cute inside! In the front there is a counter where you can purchase your choosing of bread and in the back there is a deli where you can get delirious meats and sandwiches and their shelves are covered with ingredients from all over the world. You can experience everything from corned beef and noodle kugel, to hand-picked Kalamata olives, to hand made croissants and pretty much everything in between.

And just because I don't think I've posted a picture of him before, here is Boyfriend along one of my favorite brick walls in Ann Arbor  : )

Oh my lanta, I think I'm in love!

After waiting for 9 days (I'm a very impatient woman) I finally got my new camera. I can't believe I've been using this thing for three and a half years! I desperately needed an upgrade.

I picked up the camera Saturday morning and by that evening I was already taking tons of photos and falling even more in love with him! For the past couple of months I've been using the school's camera and it's just so nice to finally have one of my own. If you haven't already heard me talking about my dream camera in my other posts, I purchased the new-ish Canon 60D.

The flip out screen is really helpful. Since I'm short, if I'm taking a picture of something that's tall, I can just put the camera up in the air and flip the screen down. I also love how big the screen is. All of my images look crisp!

And, It also takes video! I'm so excited to test it out. I've been using my I-pod nano for video and I have a feeling that this baby will do so much better. Haha.

I fell in love with it after I took the first shot.

There is still a lot that I need to learn about it. When I got it Saturday I went outside immediately and took pictures with a friend so I haven't really read all of the manual yet. I'm excited to learn more though. The other day I found the creative filters that I can do straight on the camera. There's black & white, toy camera, miniature, and soft focus effects.

One thing I have to get used to is how heavy it is. I mean it's not monstrous but compared to the schools Rebels  it's about double the weight.

I can't wait to sit down and learn more about it!

Awkward & Awesome

Awkward
- It's July already...
- How many times I hear about the Casey Anthony trial in a day. Shut up already!!!
- Even though the weather man has predicted rain almost every day, we have yet to get a drop. I'm starting to not trust this weather man...
- Boyfriend does not like swimming and doesn't find it relaxing...how can you not enjoy swimming!? Maybe I enjoy it so much because I'm a Pisces...

Awesome
- My Canon 60D should be here tomorrow!
- My cousin DJ is coming home in 17 more days from Afghanistan.
- I just spelled Afghanistan correctly without having to google it first! Haha.
- Zoos. I can't wait to go to another one. Boyfriend and I had so much fun on Monday!

Columbus Zoo and Aquarium

On Monday, Boyfriend and I headed down to Columbus, Ohio to go to the Columbus Zoo and Aquarium! It has been a really long time since we have both been to a zoo and have never been to this one before. We had so much fun and saw a lot of unique animals. The zoo was huge so it was worth the three hour drive to get there!
I really liked how they had the whole place set up. Each continent had its own little area and there were plenty of signs and workers to help you get to where you wanted to go.

One of the first animals we came across was the moose. It's one of my favorite animals and I have never seen one in person before. It was one of the many animals that I was looking forward to seeing.

Ever since I was a little girl, monkeys have always been a favorite of mine. I was glad that the zoo so many different kinds of them. Gorillas, Bonobos, Mandrills, Siamangs, Orangutans, Silver Leaf Langurs, and even Colobus Monkeys!

There were also a lot of unique animals that I haven't even heard of before. It was cool reading about them and watching them move around and such. Two of my favorites were the male Markhor and the Okapi. I love that the Okapi has a tongue like a Giraffe!!

I can't wait to go back to the zoo again! I think I want to go to the Detroit or Toledo one next. It took about five hours to get through the entire thing so hopefully the next one we go to will be just as big! I hope you enjoyed my photos at the zoo and had a wonderful 4th of July weekend!!!
